A fine quality Regency Period flamed mahogany secretarie bookcase. The upper section having a domed cornice with shell inlaid paterae above twin astragal glazed doors, enclosing four bookshelves, three of which are adjustable. The lower section having a rosewood and satinwood inlaid frieze which is repeated on the pillars and having a secretaire drawer which opens to reveal a well fitted baize lined interior with drawers, pigeon holes and secret compartments. The secretaire also having twin flamed panelled doors with satinwood banding, opening to reveal five further drawers retaining their original oval brass stamped backplate handles depicting a thistle, likely to indicate this was made in Scotland. The whole raised on a stepped plinth base. Scottish circa 1820-1830
