A Late Victorian Period Coromandel and silver plated tantalus. The case constructed in coromandel which is a rare and exotic timber, native to Sri Lanka and India and was used in the 19th Century for boxes, tea caddies and writing slopes etc. It was originally imported in small logs and used for cross banding due to its expense. The tantalus having a hinged silver plated handle and locking mechanism which opens to reveal three cut glass decanters and stoppers, with further silver plated mounts to the case. English circa 1890-1900
